The L'Aquila earthquake of April 2009 was the most destructive in the last 20 years: 390 reported dead, 2500 injured, 10000 buildings affected, 57000 people affected. Rescuers worked into the early morning hours Tuesday in hopes of finding survivors of a powerful earthquake that ripped through Italy's mountainous Abruzzo region, killing scores of people and leaving tens of thousands homeless.
